Back to work after an awesome weekend hanging out with Josh Freidman, then a handful of tasks afterwards. My body is feeling great, but I wasn’t feeling this workout.
After getting off work at 3:30 pm, I had to drive from Green Valley Ranch to pick up Gizmo in Parker, then drive back home downtown; all at the mercy of Denver 5 o’clock traffic. Miraculously, I circled the entire city and was home by 5:10 pm. I kept telling myself I needed to get this workout knocked out, but I kept finding more tasks that needed to be done in preparation for the following day.
In a perfect world, I’d be in bed at 6:30 pm everyday for a wake up at 3:30 am. This would give me the opportunity of 9 hours of rest. But most of the time, this just isn’t feasible. That would leave 3 hours after clocking out to be in bed. At the mercy of I-70, it’s usually around 35 minutes to drive home. That leaves just over 2 hours to workout, shower, eat, and prepare meals for the following day.
At no time did I contemplate not working out, it’s just the battle within my own mind telling me that it’s okay to skip a workout now and then. It was 6:15 pm by the time I started, knowing very well that I’d be getting to bed late.
When the final exercise was complete, I was no more happy than when I started. However, I sure did feel good about showing up and going through the motions, even if I wasn’t breaking any records. It was around 8:30 pm by the time I got to bed, but that small feeling of accomplishment sets the tone for immediate rest.
My current job schedule is four 10-hour days. It has its challenges, but those three following days off are well worth it. Especially when I’m able to accomplish my goals and maintain proper rest and recovery.
For a while, I’ve wanted a reason to put my thoughts on paper; especially when it comes to fitness. After sharing the logs from this weekend with a few folks, I’ve had some great comments that I should continue. So, this is my angle. I don’t plan on anyone proofreading, so I’ll apologize now for improper grammar and incomprehensible sentences. Since you’ll have a front seat, I welcome criticism, advice or pointers from anything I talk about.
